The microbiome is a collective term for the bacteria, viruses and fungi living in and on the human body, most of which are in the gut. The microbiome is considered to be a major factor in the maintenance of health and protection against disease. In some susceptible individuals, the microbiome may contribute to the pathogenesis of certain chronic disorders. There is a paucity of information on the microbiome and Down Syndrome.
