Ethically approved by University College Cork, Ireland and funded by the Lejeune Foundation, the study titled
DS Biome: Down Syndrome Gut Microbiome Sibling Study investigates the gut microbiome in relation to digestive sensitivities, bowel disorders and age-related conditions such as dementia in individuals with Down syndrome.

What is the study about?
Very little is known about the gut microbiome of people with Down syndrome.
Areas of Down syndrome that may be particularly affected by the microbiome include:

digestive sensitivity and bowel disorders;

ageing ahead of time and ageing-associated disorders, such as dementia.

This study will explore the microbiome of Down Syndrome in relation to these conditions.

What would I have to do?
​
This is an online study so everything can be done from your home.

Answer some questions on diet and health on a computer

Give us a poo sample using a sample collection kit that we mail to your home
